Question

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 liter straight six. Recently it idles rough for a couple of seconds after tapping the accelerator when the A/C is on. Dashboard tachometer shows RPM drop to around 350 - 500 in that second or two. Note that it normally idles at about 650 (per dash Tach) and holds that speed precisely when the A/C is turned on. Only drops RPM and idles roughly when the engine is revved briefly & released (while the A/C is on). Thanks for any suggestions!

It sounds as though your Jeep Grand Cherokee could use a throttle bore cleaning, minimum air rate inspection and/or adjustment, or possibly a new idle air control valve. Any of these items can be addressed by a competent repair facility.

Angelo, Thanks for your response! You were right on target with your analysis. In fact I CLEANED the idle air control valve and that fixed my problem. Best regards, Jimmy
