Question

I have a 94 Chevy Caviler w/3.1 V6, AT, A/C. The car also has 88K miles on it in a little over 2 1/2 years, mostly highway. About three fillups ago I bought gas from a unknown station. Thereafter my car has preformed horribly, 0-60 is 14+ sec (Normal 8.x sec) and between 2500 & 4000 RPM the car missfires, hesitates, shakes, knocks and backfires with poor acceleration. Under 2500 or over 4000 the car is just fine, also this only happens under load in any gear but less noticable in 3rd. Because of the mileage I replaced the fuel filter but that only helped performance a little but it still had the same problems. A little history, I have had the oil changed every 3k-5k, the trans filter replaced twice (every 40K), last tune-up was at 70K, and the radiator flushed twice a year before and after winter (up here in Chicago) also besides normal wear and tear items I have never had to service the car. Also since the bad gas I have only used Amoco Premium 93 octane with a bottle of STP Fuel Injection Cleaner added in.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt the fuel has anything to do with your on-going driveability problem although it is possible. I would suggest taking the vehicle to a competent repair facility for an engine analysis. Possible problems could be a defective spark plug wire, ignition module, or ECM.
