Question

Hi, We own a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but hopefully you can still answer my question! I wanted to see the difference power-assist makes, and so started the car rolling in an empty parking lot then turned off the ignition. Sure enough, the steering became immediately heavier -- but the brakes felt no different than before. The extent of my knowledge regarding power-assist is: "Turning the car on = Power = Easier to work the controls." This is why I was surprised the brakes felt the same with the car off. So: did the brakes in fact become heavier but by a relatively smaller amount? or is there a safety back-up for the brakes? Please help! Thank you,

Your Jeep Grand Cherokee utilizes vacuum power assist brakes. A check valve at the vacuum booster creates a small vacuum reserve which allows four to six brake applications with power assist even after engine shutdown.
