Question

hi, my name is shannon and i have a chevy blazer. it's leaking transmission fluid profusely. it leaks a little when it's off but when the car is turned on it drips in almost a steady stream. it must be flowing somewhere when the car's on needless to say i'm losing a lot of money on transmission fluid but i want to fix it myself. where might the problem be and how could i seal it? now, it's begun to smoke when the car is on. i believe the transmission that has leaked is heating up and smoking. i looked under the car and found a hard to reach hose with a slit in it, the hose is about 1-1.5 inches in diameter. but upon closer observation it seems to contain wires. is it possible that transmission fluid flows through there? thanks for your time! shannon

It is unlikely the transmission fluid is leaking from the hose with the slit in it. That is probably a wiring loom. It sounds as though you are describing a leaking transmission cooler line and/or front seal leak. This would require inspection by someone with familiarity with your type of vehicle--preferably a qualified repair facility. Please be cautioned, your leak could be considered a fire hazard.
