Question

I have a 1987 Jeep Comanche 4L inline 6. Earlier this year I had a ground problem in the front right parking light that caused the right turn signal indicator to glow slightly when the lights were on. It's been fine up until about 3 weeks ago when suddenly the headlights don't work, and upon pulling the light switch into either position the highbeam and 2 turn signal indicatiors glow. Without the lights switch on, turn signals blink very slow. I've look all over for a broken ground wire or something to the effect, and the first time a few weeks ago it went away while I was moving wires around under the dash. Now it's here for good. Have you heard of such a thing before? My old Chilton wiring diagram isn't worth a &*#( and the Hayes book has even less, so it's hard to trace down on paper. Please help! Chris

You would need to perform a series of voltage tests to determine where the fault lies. I would suspect a poor ground or ground connection somewhere in the lighting circuit. I would suggest consulting a Mitchell or Jeep factory manual for the locations of these grounds. Please note, it is a possibility that you have a problem with the feed circuit to the lights. Either of these problems can be uncovered with a series of voltage checks.
