Question

I have an 86 Mustang, 2.3 lit. (carburator). It starts great and runs fine. Recently it sort of fades out when travelling at 55-60 mph. It keeps running, but loses all power and slows down to 20-30 mph. As long as I just drive around town (35-45 mph) it runs fine, has power, acceleration, etc. I recently replaced the fuel filter at the carburator. I replaced the motor last year with one from the junk yard with unknown miles. It is clean, has good compression, doesn't use oil, runs smoothly. What should I be looking at to correct my problem?

Check the fuel pressure--this should be 5 to 7 PSI at idle. If the pressure is good, check for a restricted fuel filter. Also, check for a restricted exhaust.
