Question Angelo, I just recently changed my automatic transmission fluid in a 1990 Grand Prix. It has the 4 speed automatic with with overdrive. The reason I changed the fluid, was because of the color and smell. The fluid was almost brown, and had the burnt smell. My question is what causes that? Thanks, Kevin

Reply The fluid discoloration and odor is caused by heat generated from clutch and band slippage, clutch and band friction material, and dirt. Service your transmission every 30,000 miles and you will keep the fluid degradation to a minimum. Angelo Silverado Auto Service
