Question

My father has a 1990 Buick Century 3.3L with auto. Occassionally when he stops the engine bucks and stalls. When restarted it runs, but stalls when put in gear. It feels like the torque converter is locked. What might the problem be? Thanks Winton

It sounds as though you have a defective torque converter clutch check ball solenoid. This is a fairly common failure on this type of vehicle.
