Question I ahve a 94 VW Passat GLX sedan and I am experiencing some problems with this car. 1. The moonroof will not slide open but can only tilt up. 2.There is a loud humming sound comming from the fan system when the air conditioning is on. This hum is usually heard when the car is at idle or very close to idling. By putting the car in neutral or accelerating, the humming sound goes. However, this is not always heard when the ac is running. If you can give me any suggestions as to what may be the cause of these problems and how to remedy the problem, I will be most grateful.

Reply I would suggest taking your Passat to a competent repair facility or the local dealer to test the sun-roof switch and linkage. I would also suggest inspection of the condition of the air conditioning condenser fan and/or engine cooling fan for possible bad bearings and/or imbalance. Angelo Silverado Auto Service
