Question

I don't have a GM vehicle, but I hope you can help me. I have an '88 Civic (4-door, throttle body injection) that has an intermttent starting problem, usually when warm. Sometimes it will start and run for a few seconds and shut off, other times it will not start at all. If I let it sit for a while it will usually start (eventually). I get trouble codes for fuel injector and intake air temp. sensor. I have replaced the fuel injectors, and my service shop has replced the fuel pump and pump relay (as well as trying another CPU!). Each time we thought it was fixed. This particular problem has cost me over $300 so far, and it's not fixed yet. Usually it happens if I am running errands and am starting and shutting off the car often. I can usually tell when it is going to happen, because the idle speed will be high- then if I shut it off, it won't start again. If you have any insight, it would be appreciated. Please respond via email. Thanks, Andrew

I would suggest you check the fuel injection control relay as this is the most common failure for the complaint you are describing. We have seen a couple of Civics with symptoms identical to what you have described and the cause was the injection relay located in the passenger compartment.
