Question

Hi!! 1st time on the net, trying to get help! My name is Guy, I am the manager of a Certified Goodyear Auto Center in Arizona. I have a real interesting problem that maybe you can help with or not!!!
Aproximately 1 year ago we serviced a Jeep Cherokee (long story) and then 1 month later it burned to the ground. According to "experts" (the fire dept) "the fire started at the carburetor fuel inlet line". The only service that was remotely close to a fuel line was replacement of the valve cover gaskets. This is my quandary!!!
I know for certain that many brackets, &/or vacuum hoses, must be removed prior to removing the left valve cover, but the fuel line (which is in proximity) does not need to be moved, disturbed, or removed to access the VC cover. 1 year later I'm being sued for big bucks!!!! The whole crux of this suit is that we had to remove the fuel line in order to replace the left "VC cover" in order to change the gasket!!!
If you all are really interested in helping me with this (sewer), I need the following help. If you have ever been in court or any other argument, you know that the only way to prove your point is to let them read it in black & white!!! I have been in the judicial system before with really minor problems before and the "judge" had less knowledge about what we do and what customers think we do than the man in the Moon. Consequentially, the "judge" made judgment errors based on his/her personal experience. BUT!!!! if I/we had "proof" in black in white "printed stuff" that always seems to be "proof". Here is where I need your help. Do you have any service manuals, with the specific R&R procedure that "says" anything about removing or NOT REMOVING the fuel line to change the left valve cover gasket on 1984 Jeep Cherokee 2.8L????? If you want more specifics please E-mail me or call me @ 602-981-3516.
I am grateful for any info you can give and honestly, I am sick of people taking advantage things that probably started with their own neglect &/or lack of P.M. maintenance. It is a sad world, when "failure to warn" should be your top priority to CYA!!!!! Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Guy. Sorry, I do not have any literature indicating that the fuel line must not be disturbed when removing the left valve cover. I would suggest contacting your local dealer for a copy of a service procedure or request statements from the dealer's service department indicating that the fuel line does not need to be disturbed. Sorry I can't help you more directly. Good luck.
